Dean: Obama’s Stimulus “Unbelievably Successful in Saving Jobs … He’s Going to Get Re-Elected”

By PoliJAM | November 29, 2009

Seeming to be oblivious to the recent media reports that showed that the stimulus job numbers that had been touted by the White House have been grossly inaccurate, former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean lauded the stimulus package while appearing on Fox News Sunday.

Dean slammed Republicans for attacking a program that he claims has been “unbelievably successful in saving jobs” and added that he is “more optimistic” that small businesses will be helped by the Democratic health care reform bill.

Of course, statistics show that the stimulus has created little by way of jobs. But the package can certainly be found to have added to the nation’s growing deficit, as well as be seen as burdening the future of our country as they are left with a huge debt that must be tackled.

But for some reason Dean is able to stay optimistic, saying with the health reform bill and the stimulus, “the president’s going to do fine. I think he’s going to get re-elected.”

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, appearing with Dean on Fox News Sunday, almost came out of his chair – as host Chris Wallace said – when hearing Dean’s argument.

HUCKABEE: Yeah, I’ve got to throw a flag on that one, Chris, because I’m looking at the stimulus bill, $787 billion. The unemployment rate wasn’t going to go above eight. Now it’s well above 10.

The only jobs we’re creating are government jobs. This nonsense about we’re creating and saving jobs — they’re non-existent. Four hundred and forty phantom congressional districts that don’t even exist — now we find out that thousands of these jobs — they don’t exist either.

This has been the biggest scam and waste of taxpayer money. And Howard is right on one thing, and I think we both would agree as former governors, the impact on states is going to be huge, but the states’ economy impact usually is 12 to 18 months trailing the feds.

So watch for states to be sucking air somewhere this year and going into the election cycle of 2010, and it is going to be brutal — equal to, if not worse than, ‘01 and ‘02.
