W.H. Denies Decision Made to Send 40K More Troops to Afghan War; Taliban Shows Off ‘Seized’ U.S. Weapons

By PoliJAM | November 10, 2009

Al Jazeera is airing footage it recently obtained of Taliban fighters showing off an arms cache of what appears to be U.S. weapons said to have been seized from two outposts in the eastern Nuristan province of Afghanistan.

The International Security Assistance Forces said on October 9, 2009 that after killing hundreds of Taliban fighters at the outpost where the weapons were found, those positioned at the outpost moved positions in order to pursue a new population-centric strategy.

“In line with General Stanley McChrystal’s counterinsurgency guidance to pursue a population-centric strategy, ISAF commanders decided last month to reposition forces from remote areas with smaller population densities to population centers within the region.”

Hopefully whichever NATO country had its soldiers positioned in that location will remember to take the weapons along with them the next time they decide to reposition.

With CBS News reporting that President Obama is expected to soon send close to 40,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, I envision those Taliban fighters parading around in the above Taliban propaganda video to soon be feeling the force of such weapons being used against them by brave American soldiers in the battlefield.

In response to the report of the president’s decision on an Afghan war troop surge, the White House released the following denial to the story:

“Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false. He has not received final options for his consideration, he has not reviewed those options with his national security team, and he has not made any decisions about resources. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources.”

Below is the CBS News’ report on the president’s troop surge decision:
