Senior Dem Claims GOP Doesn’t Want Women Leaders … Yet Dems Often Argue GOP Is Controlled By Palin, Liz Cheney

By PoliJAM | November 9, 2009

Accusing Republicans of having “a talk to the hand type approach” when it comes to their attitude toward women, Senior Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida claimed that women are repulsed by the sexist Republican party.

The angry remarks, which Wasserman Schultz shared with Politico and then further elaborated on during an interview on MSNBC (video below), came in her response to Dede Scozzafava being pushed out of the House race in the New York’s 23rd District.

“Its very clear that the Republicans’ attitude toward women in this country is one of indifference, it’s a talk to the hand type approach, and I think thats why they don’t really get very many women when it comes to elections – in terms of voters, and Tamron they also really don’t have a lot of women interested in running with their party label.”

Of course Wasserman Schultz completely ignored the true reason put forward by conservatives as to why Scozzafava was pushed out, which was that her beliefs ran counter to the beliefs of the Republican party.

But facts can be stubborn things sometimes, which also leads to another contradiction in Wasserman Schultz’s argument.

As Jennifer Rubin writes in Commentary Magazine,

“Wait. I’m confused. I thought the GOP was in the grip of a right-wing wacko mother from Alaska. And Maureen Dowd warned us that Liz Cheney’s sex appeal is going to mesmerize the masses and vault her and her pro-torture, pro-war views into the ascendancy. Which is it — are Republicans punishing women or elevating them?”

So Democrats argue that on the one-hand Republicans don’t want women to represent their party, but then on the other-hand they argue that Republicans are obsessed with being led by Sarah Palin and Liz Cheney?
